This past August, Ryane Briggs — Trinity’s Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministries — was invited to experience Family Camp at Camp Arcadia in Michigan. She shares her reflections below, along with an invitation for your family to experience it too.
Do you ever long for simpler days where your family can unplug and unwind? Imagine stepping back into the 1930s or 40s to experience summer camp exactly as it used to be—the sun setting beautifully over Lake Michigan, the windows wide open to a cool lake breeze, and the nostalgic creak of old wooden dormitory floors echoing down the hallway.
Your children can experience a summer getaway that feels like a dream, yet is entirely real. Tucked away in Arcadia, Michigan, Camp Arcadia offers a nostalgic escape where time slows down. I was invited to visit Family Camp in August and fell in love with the wonderful experience the staff creates.
Upon my arrival, I could hear children happily playing make-believe along boardwalks lined with sandy areas for Tonka trucks and classic swing sets, while oversized Adirondack chairs faced the lake for the perfect sunset view. Pickleball, archery, tetherball, firepits, a crafts building, and the beach all await anyone visiting Camp Arcadia.
Camp Arcadia proudly celebrates its past—vintage photos, old merchandise, historic maps, and train tickets line the walls, honoring the rich history of this Lutheran camp across the entire property.
The kitchen staff is amazing! French toast, smoked ribs, and brisket, Oh My!—with creative menus that meet every dietary need, from gluten free to vegetarian.
Above all, Camp Arcadia provides a profound sense of Christ’s presence. I experienced a deep, enduring peace during the nightly prayers, the Dean’s lectures, and meaningful fellowship with the staff.
Camp Arcadia offers a unique opportunity to disconnect, renew your spirit, and experience the fellowship, community, and programming of a traditional Lutheran summer camp. Trinity is pleased to invite your family to share in this rewarding experience. To learn more and start planning your family’s own getaway, visit camp-arcadia.com.
